William Henry Marcus Miller Jr. is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, producer, and singer, best known as a bassist. He has worked with trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Herbie Hancock, singer Luther Vandross, and saxophonist David Sanborn, among others.

His collaboration with Vandross was especially close: Miller co-produced and served as the arranger for most of Vandross’s albums, and co-wrote many of his songs, including the hits “I Really Didn’t Mean It”, “Any Love”, “Power of Love/Love Power” and “Don’t Want to Be a Fool”. He also co-wrote the 1988 single “Da Butt” for Experience Unlimited. Miller was the main songwriter and producer on three of Miles Davis’s albums: Tutu (1986), Music from Siesta (1987), and Amandla (1989).

After being discovered by Michał Urbaniak in 1975, he spent approximately 15 years performing as a session musician, observing how band leaders operated.  He also did a lot of arranging and producing during that time. He was an individual from the Saturday Night Live band from 1988–to 1989.

He has played bass on more than 500 accounts including those of Luther Vandross, Grover Washington Jr., Roberta Flack, Carly Simon, McCoy Tyner, Weldon Irvine, Bryan Ferry, and Billy Idol.

He won the “Most Valuable Player” grant (given by NARAS to perceive studio artists) three years straight and was along these lines granted “player emeritus” status and resigned from qualification.
